SOP লেখার পাঁচটি মূল অংশ ও ব্যবহারিক নমুনা
একটি স্টেটমেন্ট অফ পারপাস কীভাবে লিখবেন তার একটি কার্যকর নমুনা — নিজের টপিক দিয়ে ঠিক এভাবেই লিখতে পারবেন।
প্রথমেই পরিষ্কার করে বলি — এই SOP-এর কোনো নির্দিষ্ট বা ইউনিক স্ট্রাকচার আমি দেখাচ্ছি না। বিষয়ভেদে এর গঠন পরিবর্তন হতে পারে। তবে অধিকাংশ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় সাধারণত ৫০০ থেকে ১০০০ শব্দের মধ্যে SOP আশা করে। এই নমুনাটিতে আমি বিষয়টিকে যতটা সম্ভব সহজ ও সংক্ষিপ্ত রাখার চেষ্টা করেছি, এবং পাঁচটি মূল বিষয়ে ফোকাস করেছি।
অংশ ১: সেলফ ইন্ট্রোডাকশন — নিজের পরিচয় ও একাডেমিক পটভূমি
SOP শুরু করবেন নিজের একটি সংক্ষিপ্ত পরিচয় দিয়ে। এখানে একাডেমিক ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ডটি খুব সংক্ষেপে তুলে ধরবেন। বিশেষ করে সেসব কোর্সের কথা উল্লেখ করবেন যেগুলো থেকে আপনি বিদেশে হায়ার স্টাডি বা এই নির্দিষ্ট বিষয়ে পড়ার অনুপ্রেরণা পেয়েছেন।
I'm Billal Hossain, a Bangladeshi student. Growing up in Bangladesh, a country facing both rapid economic growth and significant environmental challenges, I developed a strong interest in the relationship between development, industrialization, and sustainability. I completed my BBA and MBA (Major in Finance) at the University of Chittagong, where courses such as International Business, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, and Public Policy Analysis shaped my interest in global economic systems and policy dynamics.
These studies helped me understand the dilemma many developing countries face between maintaining economic growth and addressing environmental degradation. This experience motivated me to focus on green innovation and explore how international collaboration, policy coordination, and technological exchange can support sustainable development in emerging economies. My long-term goal is to contribute to research on international collaboration and global governance for sustainable development.
অংশ ২: রিসার্চ ইন্টারেস্ট ও অভিজ্ঞতা
এখানে আপনার গবেষণার আগ্রহ, স্বল্পমেয়াদী ও দীর্ঘমেয়াদী লক্ষ্য উল্লেখ করবেন। আগে কোনো গবেষণার অভিজ্ঞতা থাকলে তা বিস্তারিতভাবে তুলে ধরবেন। প্রকাশিত গবেষণাপত্র থাকলে তা উল্লেখ করুন, কনফারেন্সে অংশগ্রহণ করলে জানান। এসব কিছু না থাকলেও চিন্তার কোনো কারণ নেই — অনার্স বা মাস্টার্সের থিসিস পেপারের কথা উল্লেখ করলেই হবে।
My research interests lie at the intersection of international relations, environmental policy, and technological innovation. I focus on how international collaboration influences the implementation of green innovation in developing countries. Although international partnerships are often considered important for promoting sustainable technologies, many initiatives fail to achieve their intended outcomes. My research seeks to understand why some collaborations succeed while others do not. Specifically, I examine two key factors: the compatibility of policy goals between partner countries and the diversity of financial investments involved in collaborative projects. I argue that aligned policy priorities and balanced financial commitments increase the likelihood of successful implementation.
I have published two papers on green innovation and technology transfer, which explore how international cooperation can address environmental challenges in traditional industrial systems. In addition, my experience as a Research Assistant at the X Research Center has strengthened my interest in the political and institutional dimensions of environmental cooperation. My long-term goal is to contribute to academic research and policy discussions on international environmental cooperation and sustainable development.

আপনার গবেষণার সেক্টরে কাজের অভিজ্ঞতা থাকলে তা কিছুটা বিস্তারিতভাবে বর্ণনা করবেন। দায়িত্বগুলোকে সুন্দরভাবে তুলে ধরবেন। একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় — আপনার কাজের অভিজ্ঞতা যদি গবেষণার বিষয়ের সাথে সরাসরি সম্পর্কিত না হয়, তবুও কতদিন কাজ করেছেন সেটা সংক্ষেপে উল্লেখ করুন। তবে এমনভাবে লিখবেন না যেনো মনে হয় আপনি জবটাকে জোর করে গবেষণার সাথে যুক্ত করছেন।
Before pursuing an academic career, I gained professional experience in the banking sector in Bangladesh. This experience provided practical insights into the economic and institutional structures that influence development in emerging economies. Through my work, I observed how financial systems support investment, innovation, and economic activities.
Although my work was not directly related to environmental policy or international relations, it helped me understand the importance of financial infrastructure and regulatory frameworks in enabling sustainable development. I realized that technological and environmental transitions often depend on effective financial mechanisms and institutional coordination.
This experience motivated me to shift my focus toward academic research to better understand how governments, financial institutions, and international partners can collaborate to support sustainable development. It also helped me develop valuable skills in communication, analytical thinking, and organizational management.
অংশ ৪: কেন এই প্রোগ্রাম এবং কেন আপনি — অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ
এটা হলো পুরো SOP-এর প্রাণ। কেন এই বিষয়ে বা এই প্রোগ্রামে ভর্তি হতে চান, এবং কেন প্রফেসর বা বিভাগটি আপনাকে তাদের শিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে গ্রহণ করবে — এটা যুক্তিসঙ্গতভাবে বুঝিয়ে বলতে হবে। এখানে আপনার ব্যক্তিগত অনুপ্রেরণা এবং শক্তির দিকগুলো তুলে ধরবেন। এরপর একটু ভিন্ন কৌশল প্রয়োগ করবেন — বুদ্ধি দিয়ে নিজের একটি বা দুটি ছোট সীমাবদ্ধতা বা দুর্বলতার কথা উল্লেখ করবেন। এবং বলবেন যে ঠিক এই সীমাবদ্ধতা কাটিয়ে ওঠার জন্যই আপনি হায়ার স্টাডি করতে চান। এরপর বলবেন কেন নির্দিষ্ট এই প্রফেসরকে সুপারভাইজার হিসেবে চান।
I am applying to this program because it provides an excellent environment for studying international relations, global governance, and international cooperation. Its interdisciplinary approach will allow me to examine the political and institutional factors that influence sustainable development and environmental policy.
My research focuses on how international collaboration supports the implementation of green innovation in developing countries. Although many international initiatives promote sustainable technologies, differences in policy priorities, institutional capacity, and financial commitments often create significant implementation challenges. My goal is to identify the conditions under which such collaborations succeed.
At the same time, I recognize that there are areas in which I hope to improve through advanced academic training. While I have developed a strong conceptual foundation in international cooperation and sustainability, I would like to further strengthen my methodological skills, particularly in empirical research and comparative analysis. Participating in this program will allow me to deepen these skills and conduct more rigorous academic research.
I am particularly interested in working under the supervision of Professor Robert. পুরো SOP-এর পরিসংখ্যান ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ টিপস
পাঁচটি অংশ মিলিয়ে এই SOP-এর মোট শব্দ সংখ্যা: ৬৭১ শব্দ। এটি অধিকাংশ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ৫০০–১০০০ শব্দের প্রয়োজনীয়তার মধ্যে পড়ে। তবে SOP লেখার সময় আরও কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় মাথায় রাখতে হবে:
- এটা রিসার্চ প্রপোজাল নয় — তাই এখানে গবেষণার ধাঁধা, গ্যাপ, তাত্ত্বিক কাঠামো কিছুই আসবে না। SOP হলো আপনার যাত্রার কাহিনি, প্রপোজাল হলো গবেষণার পরিকল্পনা — দুটি সম্পূর্ণ ভিন্ন জিনিস।
- ফান্ডিং বা আর্থিক সহায়তার কথা বলা যাবে না — অনেকে SOP-এ লিখে যে "আমি আর্থিক সমস্যার কারণে স্কলারশিপ দরকার" — এটা একদমই ভুল। SOP-এর উদ্দেশ্য হলো আপনার একাডেমিক যোগ্যতা প্রমাণ করা, আর্থিক প্রয়োজনের কথা স্কলারশিপের আলাদা সেকশনে বলতে হয়।
- নিজের দেশের নেতিবাচক দিক তুলে ধরবেন না — অনেক SOP-এ দেখেছি যেখানে শিক্ষার্থী কেন এই দেশ বা এই ইউনিভার্সিটি বেছেছে তা বলতে গিয়ে নিজের দেশের ত্রুটি ধরছে। এটা একদমই করা যাবে না। প্রসঙ্গমত কিছু বলার প্রয়োজন হলে ইতিবাচকভাবে নিজের দেশ নিয়ে লিখবেন।
- ইউনিভার্সিটি বা দেশ নিয়ে অতিরিক্ত প্রশংসা করবেন না — যে দিকটা ভালো লেগেছে সেটা সরাসরি দুই-তিন বাক্যে বলবেন। বেশি বললে প্রফেসরের মনে হবে আপনি তেল মারছেন। সহজ কথায় — বাটারিং করছেন।
- শব্দ সীমা কঠোরভাবে মানবেন — যদি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বা প্রফেসর নির্দিষ্ট শব্দসীমা বলে দেয়, তাহলে তার থেকে এক শব্দও বেশি লিখবেন না। স্ট্যান্ডার্ড হলো ১২ ফন্টে ২ থেকে ৩ পৃষ্ঠা, শব্দে সর্বোচ্চ ১০০০।
- ভাষা সহজ ও স্বাভাবিক রাখবেন — নিজেকে অত্যন্ত জ্ঞানী মনে করানোর জন্য কঠিন সমার্থক শব্দ ব্যবহার করবেন না। এটা ভালো কোনো কাজ করে না, বরং পড়তে কষ্ট হয়। সহজ, স্পষ্ট ও প্রফেশনাল ভাষাই সবচেয়ে কার্যকর।
SOP হলো আপনার লিখিত পরিচয় — প্রফেসর আপনাকে দেখেন এই ডকুমেন্টের মাধ্যমে। তাই এটা যতটা সৎ, স্পষ্ট ও সুগঠিত হবে, ততটাই ভালো। নিজের টপিক দিয়ে এই পাঁচটি অংশ অনুসরণ করে লিখতে পারলে একটি শক্তিশালী SOP তৈরি করা সম্ভব। সবাই ভালো থাকুন। চেষ্টা করে যান, দেবার মালিক সৃষ্টিকর্তা।
